Desktop not properly refreshing (updating)

OK. I have been having quite a few issues since going to 43. One of those was something that happened again today. The first thing I usually do when booting up is to go into dnfdragora and run an update. So I did that this morning. Noticed that selinux-policy and selinux-policy-targeted were on the list. Have been having some issues with SELinux so after the updates I decided to take a screenshot. Well a previous problem then came back. The screenshot did not show up on the desktop. Looked in the desktop folder and it was there. So hit F5 and there it was, now on the desktop. Did a reboot and the problem went away. But why is the desktop not properly refreshing like that? Second time this has happened. Was never an issue in 42…

Also decided to check behavior on my other computer and yes it happened there as well.

Should I be reporting this as a bug? Is it related to glycin? I did have to install the glycin thumbnailer after the change to 43. Also this is using the MATE Compiz spin.

Which version of dnfdragora is in use?. Versions older than 2.99 apparently would only work with dnf4 but that was reported to be fixed with 2.99 and newer versions.

I am not sure about the issue with the desktop updates though since I do not use Mate.

The issue is not dnfdragora. That is working just fine. Also I can run the updates from the command line as well. The issue is when strange things start happening like a screenshot that I take not showing up on the desktop. Hit F5 and refresh and there it is. And of course after a reboot everything is back to normal. So not sure what is up with that.

I don’t know. This seems like a bit of a minor bug. But frankly 43 has been the buggiest upgrade that I have ever done. And I have been using Fedora for quite a few years now. At least my son and I figured out how to quit getting SELinux alerts and AVC Denial every time I took a screenshot. And the day after I did the move to 43 I had to figure out why thumbnails were not showing up properly on the desktop (glycin thumbnailer). All of that is at least fixed now. Just hoping that something else isn’t going to break any time soon.

Just had a new bug pop up. Once again I started out by installing some updates. A lot of them were qt6. Then went to watch a video on YouTube. The volume is too high so I went over to volumeicon to turn it down. I quickly realized that the volume was not tracking with volumeicon. When I went into alsa mixer in a console I could adjust it. Anyway, once again rebooted and things are back to normal. Not sure what is going on right now. Will probably be fine until another update breaks it again and I have to reboot. This is really strange behavior for sure and something I have not previously encountered.

I think I might do the updates from the command line next time just to see if there is any difference. Need to troubleshoot exactly what is going on. I have no idea right now. Previously I had volumeicon not showing up, but that was an issue with bwrap that got fixed. Also I will report back on whether or not this happens on the other computer after an update. Going to boot that one up now.

Alright. Went to the newer computer and did the updates and had no issue with volumeicon working. So now I am even more confused. If I was a better troubleshooter I probably should have tried to look up what was happening in a log or something. I did not expect that.

Also yesterday when there was the issue with the desktop not refreshing properly after taking a screenshot, I also noticed that thumbnails on the desktop came up rather slowly and not all at once. That was odd. Has not happened again. Carry on.
