Deja Dup rejects passphrase after changing backup location

Hi there,

I’m running Fedora Workstation 43, and I am attempting to use Deja Dup (RPM version) to restore a backup that I have stored on Google Drive. The passphrase that I have set works just fine, but it has me wait literal weeks to restore my data. So instead I downloaded the files via Google Takeout, and then extracted the files to my external drive, intending to restore from that location. However, when I use the same passphrase, it says its incorrect. I know for absolute certain I am using the same passphrase. Is there something about the change of location that is causing this? How can I restore my files without having to wait weeks?

Hi and welcome to :fedora: Discourse.

What version of DejaDup are you on, and what backend is it using: duplicity or restic?

You can view the used backend by going into the app’s menu → About → Troubleshooting → Debugging Information → Tool Name. Then you could try using the backend’s CLI tool to try restoring your data.

Hi, thanks for replying! I am using the restic backend.

I actually managed to solve my problem. Instead of using Google Takeout, I just accessed the folder that stored the backup files in Google Drive via Nautilus, and copied them over to my local storage, and it worked! It might be that Takeout is leaving out important files which is concerning.
