Any thoughts on this. The decentralized nature would make it difficult to fully achieve, but something like this can help many other distros that might not have the backing of some of the enterprise players in our space. How might we achieve this? Should we collectively push it up to the Linux Foundation to help provide a mutual share project/effort. Any thoughts on a solution or proposals?
The Ubuntu message you’ve linked to was in reply to an email that was addressed to several distributions. You can follow the discussion on devel here. Because of people’s client software there have been a few offshoots here and there, but you can catch them all on the mailing list.
Imo should be decentralized: Distros have different views and might be willing to comply borderline vs over-encompassing. I’m interested to see how distros balance privacy and compliance to users and believe an all-in-one approach would be over-encompassing and bulky.
Sounds good. I figured I would start the conversation since it applies to all the distros to see if there was any interest in this and how to do it. But yes, 100% that each distro figured out a way to balance this and this might lead to a bigger discussion on how to address it.
