Here’s the agenda for the Council meeting 2026-07-01T14:00:00Z2026-07-01T15:00:00Z:

As per our meeting planner board, we will aim to make progress on the tickets in the ‘discussion’ column in this weeks meeting.

All are welcome to join us in #fedora-meeting.

More information about the council meeting and rolling agenda can be found on the council meetings wiki page.

Here are the links to the minutes and logs from todays meeting. The summary is provided to you by ‘bot Aurélien’, which I can only assume has come from the great @Aurelien Bompard - so thank you bot Aurélien, and Human Aurélien

#Bot Aurélien Summary:

##Ticket #569: Rename “Atomic Desktops” to “Fedora Atomic Desktops”

The council discussed the request to move content and branding under the “Fedora Atomic Desktops” umbrella.
There were no objections, and with several +1 votes, the request was approved via lazy consensus.

#community Initiatives Process

  • The council discussed a previously drafted (but unpublished) statement to suspend the Community Initiatives process.
  • There was a debate on the effectiveness of the Initiatives process. Some felt it was fundamentally flawed, citing issues with clarity, communication, and a perception that proposals required an “insider” to be approved. Others argued that despite its flaws, the process had led to significant achievements.
  • The discussion highlighted that the current process struggles with proposals involving third-party entities (e.g., Nvidia, Bazzite).

#The Future of Initiatives & The “Sandbox” Proposal

The “Sandbox” proposal was discussed as a potential future mechanism for large-scale projects.
A distinction was made between different types of project frameworks:

  • Changes: Scoped to a single release for specific engineering work.
  • Initiatives: Viewed as containers for multiple Changes and cross-team work spanning several releases.
  • Sandbox: A potential new “incubation” space for experimentation and exploration before a project becomes an official Change or Initiative.

The council agreed to put the current Initiatives process on hold indefinitely and encourage community discussion around the Sandbox proposal first. After that discussion concludes, the council will revisit whether to retire or evolve the Initiatives concept.

##Action Items

  • Aoife Moloney (@amoloney): Mark ticket #569 as approved.
  • Aoife Moloney (@amoloney): Edit and publish the statement suspending the Community Initiatives process to Discourse and via email.
  • Fedora Council: Come back to the question of whether to retire or evolve the Community Initiatives process after the “Sandbox” proposal discussion reaches a conclusion.

Our next meeting is scheduled for 2026-07-15 @ 1400 UTC+1 in #meeting:fedoraproject.org
