3 displays side by side: LG monitor (left), laptop display (middle), LG monitor (right)
Workspaces: Span displays, Vertical orientation
Tiling (autotile) on
Default shortcuts
Problem
The other two monitors have windows open on the current workspace. When a window is the only window on its own screen, Super+Shift+Down does not move it to the next workspace. Nothing happens. This happens on all three
screens.
If a second window is open on the same screen, the move works.
Super+Shift+Up works.
The right-click option “Move to next workspace” works.
Steps to reproduce
Set Workspaces to “Span displays” and “Vertical”.
Open windows on two of the monitors.
Open one window on the third monitor, with no other window on that screen.
Select that window and push Super+Shift+Down.
Result: The window does not move. Expected: The window moves to the next workspace. The current workspace still has windows on the other monitors, so it should stay.
Do other Fedora COSMIC users see this? Is it intended, or should I report it upstream?
Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but on my Cosmic Atomic system, the shortcut to move a window between workspaces is Super + Shift + Control + left/right arrow key and it works fine. This is confirmed by viewing the shortcut under the right click menu of window title bars. Strange that you’re seeing a different one.
I’m not on Atomic. I’m on the regular Fedora COSMIC Spin. I’ve changed most of my keybinds, but I checked that they aren’t causing this.
Moving windows between monitors and workspaces works in most cases. For example, if I have four terminals, a browser, and Obsidian open, I can move one of them to a new workspace with no problem.
The problem shows up when I try to split separate projects into their own workspaces. I can’t move a window down to a new workspace unless another window is also open on that monitor. For example, with two terminals open on my left monitor, I can move one of them down. With only one terminal open there, I can’t move it.
