Hi

I’m not quite certain if this is the correct place to ask, but I am a bit confused to be honest. I have been trying to figure out how I (as a non packager) can become a packager for the Fedora repository. There is a certain orphaned package python-magnumclient I would like to adopt and maintain as It is still used and there are newer upstream version of the software available, but im in a bit of a documentation loop. There are multiple documentations that have guided me into different directions but I can’t figure out where I need to create a post/issue and what information it must contain.

So my main question is: Where do I apply to become a “packager”? I saw some mention of a sponsorship, how do I request a sponsor?

Can someone lead me into the right direction?

Hi there, it’s great that you are looking to participate in project maintenance.

This is usually the starting point for new package maintainers:

For the package you’re looking at, since it’s been orphaned for a while, it’ll require a re-review:

So, when you post the re-review, you can mention that you need a sponsor (follow the new package process in the above docs). That way, a sponsor will help with the review and add you to the package maintainers group once the review is complete.

I’ve seen that the documentation on the following page docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/package-maintainers/How_to_Get_Sponsored_into_the_Packager_Group/ states that I need to create an issue on the pagure.io/packager-sponsors/issues site. But all the existing issues have a link to an external bugzilla issue. However, I cannot see any mention of bugzilla on the mentioned fedora documentation page. What is the correct process here? First, create a bugzilla issue and link it there?

I think the way it works is that when you add the “NEEDSPONSOR” key word to your review ticket on bugzilla, it automatically creates a ticket for you in the package-sponsors issues. So, I’d try that first. if automation doesnt create an issue in the package-sponsors repo, we can create one manually.

(If it does, we should update the documentation to note this)

Thanks for your help @ankursinha . I managed to get it working and create a bugzilla issue as well as uploading it to copr. I still had to create the package-sponsors issue myself, but I got it, so thank you :slight_smile: (Requesting sponsorship for python-magnumclient).
