[Common Issue Talk] Installation sometimes doesn't finish, the spinner spins forever

This is a discussion topic for the following Common Issue:

You can discuss the problem and its solutions here, but please note that debugging and technical feedback should primarily go to the issue trackers (e.g. Bugzilla) linked in the Common Issue, because that’s the place that developers watch, not here.

If there are any updates/changes/amendments for the Common Issue description, which you believe should be performed, please post it here.

Please see the Common Issue for solution/workarounds:

Hi

This link still points to Fedora 43. Is this normal ?

If you look at the actual URL, there’s nothing version specific. Once F44 is officially released, you’ll see F44 there.

I’ve also seen once that the graphical page can show installation complete at the same time the logs in /tmp are truncated (see 2442147 – F44 UI sometimes hangs near end of install on slow machines ). So there appear to be two separate problems - one that the GUI doesn’t show install complete, the other that the logs in /tmp don’t show it. I’m guessing the install is actually complete in both cases. If the problem with the logs being truncated could be fixed, then it could be reliably determined if the install is actually complete by looking at them. Apparently it’s almost impossible to debug Firefox but it may be easier to fix the problem with the logs.

Note that in the one case where I got the GUI to show install complete on a slow machine, I was running “top” in a VT in the installer while it was running. Earlier, when I was trying to reproduce this problem in a VM, I found that interacting with the installer while it was running made it impossible to reproduce. So opening a VT in the installer and running something may reduce the chances of the problem happening. It’s not 100% reliable though as in my slowest machine it “hung” anyway.
