Between legal concerns and the enduring ubiquity of H.264, it seems there isn’t much Fedora can do in this particular case, unfortunately.
Still, thanks to everyone who supported the proposal on Pagure! I honestly didn’t expect it to gain as much momentum as it did.
And to those affected, I can only suggest the following: boycott proprietary codecs, and ask your favorite content creators to do the same; AV1 is a thing (with AV2 coming soon), and the more popular royalty-free codecs get, the sooner proprietary cancers like H.264 will die out. Boycott Cisco, as it’s not the first time they denied people free software seemingly on a whim, not to mention the other controversies. And spread the word.
