Chrome not working properly on f40 when started from KDE menu

Hello,

I have a strange behavior when I start google chrome from KDE menu. I cannot attach any file to emails (I get a message that the files have 0 bytes and cannot be attached) (Version 124.0.6367.118 (Official Build) (64-bit)).
On the other hand, if I start from terminal, it works fine (Version 124.0.6367.118 (Official Build) (64-bit).

It is exactly the same build.

Has anyone an idea about this?

Check the differences between what you use on the cli and what is in the exec=NNNN line within the /usr/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop file.

$ grep -i exec /usr/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop
Exec=/usr/bin/google-chrome-stable %U
Exec=/usr/bin/google-chrome-stable
Exec=/usr/bin/google-chrome-stable --incognito

Hi,
thanks!

grep -i exec /usr/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop
Exec=/usr/bin/google-chrome-stable %U
Exec=/usr/bin/google-chrome-stable
Exec=/usr/bin/google-chrome-stable --incognito

From terminal I launch google-chrome-stable:

whereis google-chrome-stable
google-chrome-stable: /usr/bin/google-chrome-stable

I have the same issue with skype. I cannot attach any file unless I start it from terminal.
So it seems to be a “systemwide” issue:

I had this in f39 too, before upgrading to f40.

grep -i exec /usr/share/applications/skypeforlinux.desktop
Exec=/usr/bin/skypeforlinux %U
Exec=/usr/bin/skypeforlinux --shutdown

whereis skypeforlinux
skypeforlinux: /usr/bin/skypeforlinux /usr/share/skypeforlinux
