I’m on Windows currently and have casually considered switching to Edge a few times. I kind-of question Mozilla’s stance about WebUSB, and off Windows really question their HEVC stance (they claim they don’t want to support a patent-encumbered codec while freely and silently doing it Android/Windows no problem).
I use LineageOS on Android usually without Google Apps which makes anything other than Firefox questionable to obtain/update. Largely I’m still using Firefox today because it mostly works consistently still, but I’m curious about switching to MS Edge.
Any other browser on that list is either an outdated Firefox fork, Chromium fork, unheard of (never heard of Floorp lol), or generally overkill/specialized (Tor).
Considering sites like Phoronix pad every margin with ads coming from various sources, browsing any website nowadays isn’t a joke with security. Forks and less-popular browsers have less-eyes (devs, people maintaining OS-specific packages, and users to be loud about security holes). And trying to “play fair” with hostile ad networks or whatever Brave is trying to do isn’t my cup of tea (ad networks are the ones not curating what they deliver to cause the need to have to protect my stuff from malware; ya’ll get blocked because of bad-intent ).
Please do not select this survey for mobile devices. Select for PC and non-mobile devices (e.g. laptop pc).
it seems you are collection data and survey results for a third-party company or sell them since you refer WE on posts and demand/request to not add mobiles
can you you explain more on who are we? what is this data collection purpose?
Meh, I revel in nothing better than telling advertisers all about why I block their ads; them taking any actions based on that will just make me try even harder and justify it
We are not a company. We are not a third party company at all. We are an open source software development community.
so the community to build IceDragon browser so why it is under Comodo company elts be real you say you are Universe Community Developer of IceDragon Browser and say you are not company and quick google search for IceDragon Browser goes straight to Comodo security company website where they offer there services
Comodo IceDragon is a discontinued Firefox-based open source web browser from the Comodo Group for Microsoft Windows.
We didn’t know Comodo had such a browser. We’ll change our name. Thanks for the warning.
We are not a company. We are an open source software and operating system development community. Our browser has a similar name. We will fix it.
You could have said it nicely without prejudice.
Our name IceDragon comes from the combination of the features of Icecat and FireDragon Browsers in general.
We have no connection with Comodo.
If you notice, if you look at the survey, it says that our web browser is for TesseraQt OSs. We are developing a web browser for TesseraQt-N and TesserQt-G operating systems, running on NixOS VM and GuixOS VM.
On mobile, only use Sleipnir (webview based). Can’t use anything else now because Sleipnir allows me to browse internet with just one thumb (it has finger gestures). It’s such good UX design that I browse internet at lightning fast speed with just one thumb! It also has a full-screen mode for using ALL your screen real estate. It also has an in-built night mode that’s so well-done and fast.
It is not very polite to use other project’s forum to collect data for your community, even if it is an open source community.
You could at least be less aggressive, and if the goal of this survey is really data collection, you should have asked the permission to do that, or at least explain the goal in the poll. Don’t you think that?
Let’s build open source solidarity.
We do not take data from anyone by force. Everything is voluntary and open to the community. And the data is just user preferences. I think there’s no need to overdo it, it’s a simple survey. I don’t see anything in the forum rules about asking permission. If you want to establish authority, I won’t bow down. I’m using the survey feature of fedora discussion to find out the browser preferences of fedora users, thanks to watercooler, in an open transparent way on non fedora topics, in accordance with the forum rules. I’m aware of my legal rights, I don’t go outside the framework of the forum rules. I’ve already explained my purpose. I don’t think it’s a big deal, an old poll has already been done. I’m just repeating it. If there are words you want me to change, give me the authority to change them and I will change them. It is currently closed to change. I would also like to edit it and write my purpose in the subject content, but editing is currently closed, I can’t edit it.
I agree. But I think that such aggressive behavior doesn’t help to build any solidarity. On the contrary, it fuels controversy and undermines polite discussions.
It depends on what you mean with “browser”.
I think there are only two, Firefox/Gecko and Chromium/Blink.
We could add Safari/Webkit.
Anything else is a variation of those.
Firefox is probably technically a bit worse than Chromium but it has more user-friendly features plus I am an ancient Netscape user, so…
When I have to rely on some Google or Microsoft Internet service I use Chromium/Chrome because of compatibility.
Let’s hope this project amounts to something: Ladybird browser
