CDROM eject button not working

I have an irksome issue I need some help with. I spent about 3 hours on it now and I can not figure out. I just started up and upgraded an old server I have (running workstation 39 not server) and for some reason the button to open the CDROM tray does not eject the CD. I am able to use a paper clip to open the tray and insert/remove discs and then reading the disk works fine.
CD-ROM info:
Host: scsi4 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: HL-DT-ST Model: DVD-ROM DTA0N Rev: DC01
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 05
The machine is a ThinkServer TS140
Thanks for any help!

Does it work when you run sudo eject -r from the command line?

If the command suggested by Scott does not work then it seems likely that the drive may be beginning to fail since the electrical mechanism to open/close the tray is operated by the button as well as by that command.

No. Same result.

That is what I am starting to belive is the most likely solution.
