Can't type Dhivehi obofilli on some applications

,

I can’t seem to be able to type obofilli on some applications. I can type just fine on LibreOffice, but I can’t type it on either Inkscape or GIMP. It’s a bit annoying because I have to type on LibreOffice and then copy it to either Inkscape or GIMP at the moment.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Add Dhivehi layout in KDE Plasma keyboard settings.
  2. Switch to the Dhivehi keyboard layout.
  3. Open either Inkscape or GIMP.
  4. Create a textbox and try typing “obofilli” by pressing the letter “o” on a QWERTY keyboard.

System Info

Operating System: Fedora Linux 43
KDE Plasma Version: 6.6.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.23.0
Qt Version: 6.10.2
Kernel Version: 6.18.13-200.fc43.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland

Additional Info

Obofilli is what looks like an “x” at the top of the character “އ” in the above image.

When I try to type “obofilli” in either Firefox or GIMP, it types this character: ΅ . If I then press any key, it disappears.

You may need to talk to KDE folks to find out why the input method is not working in all apps.
Hmm is this a GTK vs Qt issue I wonder?

I believe it’s an issue with KDE Plasma. I tried a couple of Live ISOs on a VM and I was able to type fine on Linux Mint (Cinnamon) and Fedora 43 Workstation (GNOME), but it didn’t work on Fedora 42, 43 (KDE Plasma) and CachyOS (KDE Plasma).

It’s this one specific diacritic that I’m unable to type strangely.

Edit: I’m not so sure this is a Plasma issue now. I tried the Fedora Sway Spin and the same issue happens on that.

Sorry, I was not clear on what I was thinking.

Maybe native plasma Qt apps work, but GTK apps on plasma may not?

Agreed either way it’s something for the KDE folks to fix.

I’ve found a solution to this issue. After installing fcitx5 and setting the Virtual Keyboard in KDE Plasma settings to it, I can now type the “obofilli” diacritic in Firefox, GIMP, Inkscape, etc.
