Live session seemed to work ok, so proceeded with install. After reboot it would not accept the password I defined. Tried mult. times. Asked Google AI for advice. It stated that with F44 a new “Plasma Login Manager” was implemented and is causing problems “for many users”. GoogAI also suggested a workaround that involved giving grub the “e” entry and launching a root shell session. Was unable to. It presented a message telling me it could not start a console session because the root account was locked. I even tried a re-format & re-install but got nowhere. I noticed during login attempts (opening the little ‘eyeball’ icon), that my key entries are sometimes randomly being misinterpreted! Even after backspacing & correcting these key entries, it will not buy the correct password. I have a ‘macro keypad’ that is capable of entering my pw, & I see the same thing happen (so I know I’m not ‘fat-fingering’ it). Is anyone else experiencing this?
Plasma Login Manager works quite well for me, both on F43 and now on F44. And there haven’t been many reports in here to the contrary, either. So I would at least question the accuracy of the LLM output.
Anyway, an old-fashioned web search for “fedora reset root password” gives this Fedora documentation page titled “How to Reset the root Password” as the first result. It explains how to bypass the normal startup and launch directly into a root shell to change any password on the system.
I haven’t had this behavior on any of my machines. I suggest you try setting an extremely simple password for testing, to eliminate any errors during both setting and entering the password.
Sounds like that might be a keyboard layout issue.

Thank you, Lars. I was able to correct the login password issue with the info you showed me, so I am able to log in. It would seem that macro keypad I’m using is giving me some grief. It’s very odd. The login screen seems to not acknowlege the ‘shifted’ characters (caps, symbols) a lot of the time. It’s only happening on login. Once the Plasma desktop is up and running, I can launch any app, and the keypad works perfectly, all the time. This is a minor annoyance I can work around, but still rather puzzling. This Fedora install is the only place I’ve encountered this. Thanks again.
