Hi, I wanted to install Fedora 44 KDE on my main gaming PC but I keep getting “Out of memory” and “Cannot allocate kernel”, other distros work (cachy and mint boot perfectly).
Secure boot is off, I have used fedora media writer, rufus, balenaetcher and also ventoy to make all my usbs, tried with fedora 43 iso, tried different usb ports and nothing
fedora 43 is years old at this point, use fedora 44 or 45 beta
if it says that, i would discard a bad download, the iso might be broken, download another, try to use a different thumbdrive to discard, be sure to plug the thumbdrive in the rear of the pc case, not in the front
i will assume you have good ram(you have tested it, right?) and you dont have a dying intel cpu that already had the microcode that should avoid its early death thanks to intel shoving 400 watts into it with way too high voltages
it is a beta that will not be beta in like 2 weeks, it is at the same point f44 is now basically, if my pc did not exploded, i doubt others will, i recomended first f44, and there are no direct links to the beta yet on the fedora site, only in the forum, nothing is crumbling right now
No, my older pc with a i7 12700k and Asus B760 Plus booted the usb no problem so I figured it’s not a bios update thing, and I needed to update my current motherboard to support the 14th gen cpu a year ago when I bought it and it was “scary”, mainly because I didn’t know you could update with a GUI (EZ Flash) from bios…
sorry but I didn’t understand the microcode part for my cpu
I have tried 3 different iso downloads with 3 different thumbdrives and all ports on my pc (front and back)
No, I’m not running the latest I have updated it at the beginning of 2025 when I bought it and that’s it, I’m running version 4101 for the Asus ROG Maximus z690 Hero Eva
Update the BIOS.
You could also try a f44 respin. IIRC there were attempts lately to fix this issue. Those respin ISOs have all stable updates included. ISOs are updated every 2-3 weeks.
