Cannot change default app (for .m4a, with both Audacious and VLC installed)

On both my laptop and desktop PC, I am not able to change a default program that would open m4a files.

I have tried selecting a default program in the Settings, to no avail. Clicking on “Always use this file type” in the “Open with…” dialogue seemingly does nothing.

The issue is with m4a files, not flac or mp3 for example.

Fedora 43 Workstation
Gnome 49
Wayland

I’ve also created an issue on Gnome bugtracker.

dg-mime default <application.desktop> audio/x-m4a
$ dg-mime default audacious.desktop audio/x-m4a
bash: dg-mime: command not found...

ops xdg-mime default <application.desktop> audio/x-m4a

xdg-mime default audacious.desktop audio/x-m4a

After $ xdg-mime default audacious.desktop audio/x-m4a, nothing changed:

did you logout login

OK, after logging out and in, Audacious became the default app. Thanks!

Somehow the setting has reset back to VLC, so the problem persists.

If you playing with settings that happen re do it steps and stay on it

I changed nothing.
