Can keys be migrated from seahorse to kwalletmanager?

Is there a way to export keyring keys from seahorse to kwalletmanager?

I am running MATE but want to try KDE Plasma, which I also installed. However, when logged into KDE, some applications like Signal, Matrix, etc do not work because they don’t find the keys and think their database is corrupt or inaccessible.

I suppose I could manually try copying the keys in seahorse into kwalletmanager, but the structure is different in the latter and I’m not sure how it should be done.

Is there a reasonably smooth way to try different desktop environments without causing issues with applications and their keys?

Well, looks like I can just wait it out and this problem may solve itself. The secrets provider for both gnome and kde is expected to change to oo7 in Fedora 45.

Fortuitous timing. I may just wait until after the upgrade to Fedora 45 in a few months before exploring other desktop environments to make such transitions less of a hassle.

When I checked, oo7 is not installed on either Gnome or KDE beta versions, so perhaps oo7 is not quite ready for f45.

It’s still on the 45 release changeset: Releases/45/ChangeSet - Fedora Project Wiki

One point to consider is that although this change is coming for gnome, it’s not clear if it will immediately affect the MATE spin.

I know, but if it is not included in Beta it is questionable if it would be ready for final release. oo7 basically works, but it can be tricky to migrate.

How many keys are we talking about.

A google search for “export gnome keyring” gives among others this utility, and that is a bigging when probably could add the keys back in using copy and paste from the csv file.

About a couple dozen, but I mainly need a couple to start. I could do it manually if I knew how. The fields in seahorse do not to correspond to the folder structure and categories in kwalletmanager.

So exporting to a csv file doesn’t solve the issue in this case, unless the other secret manager can import from csv, which does not seem to be the case.

kwalletmanager has options to import .kwl wallet, import XML, and “import encrypted”.
