Can I do a fully offline installation of F41 minimal?

I have installed Fedora a number of times over the last couple of years.
Always it demands an internet connection to complete, even if it is a Live USB that can boot to a desktop or console.
There is a ‘source’ selection, I set the USB, but then it still won’t let me proceed and I must enable a network download. Am I missing something? (Related to Fedora installs I mean  )

You can perform a minimal offline install using the Fedora Server DVD image.
AFAIK, this is the only official image that provides a limited local RPM repo.
Note, that some packages including the kernel can be older than the ones fetched with netinstall, so be ready to upgrade.

Wait what? I have never required an internet connection for any Fedora install, other than the Everything iso. Or do I not understand the question?

You probably missed the part about the kick-start file, which would only work with the Network Install iso file or the two Server iso files. With the Live iso files, the kick-start doesn’t work, or to be more exact, the kick-start file was applied on the build server when build the iso image.

That’s odd … I have installed Fedora over the years with no network connection at all. Are you certain you did not download the “Network Install iso”?

Yes I did use the Network Install, however it does have a ‘use this install media’ setting which does not work. So it tricked me

I am not sure if in Workstation or KDE Spin one can have any choice of what is installed.

I always use the network installer and it is so great because one can choose what to bring in.
However I always go for ‘minimal’ and then bring what I want in on the command line.

Now I know that I can use the Server DVD to do a fully offline minimal install (tested), so for my purposes the problem is solved. Server does not have the options to install Sway, XFCE, Budgie etc that the Network Installer does.

There are numerous schemes to accomplish offline installs.

A pattern I’ve used is to offline kickstart something minimal from the server dvd, harden it, then add to it after putting it online. For fully air-gapped I’ve sneakernet’d data from an online mirror to the air-gapped mirror. Maybe a site-local mirror would be helpful for you.

The packages on the workstation live dvd can be obtained and used for offline installation.
