Call for Volunteers — Fedora Mentor Summit @ Flock 2026
Hi Fedora community! We’re kicking off planning for the Fedora Mentor Summit 2026, which will take place alongside Flock to Fedora in June 2026 (Prague). The previous Fedora Mentor Summit at Flock to Fedora 2025 had great feedback on the community-focused activities we organized — and we want to keep the momentum going!
To make this year’s Mentor Summit even better, we’re looking for volunteers to help organize and run the following key activities:
Core Activities to Focus On
Sticker Match Session A fun social activity for folks to meet across teams and interests using sticker categories — great for networking and making new connections. (Inspired by this year’s Sticker Match social)
Mentor Match Lunch During the conference lunch, we match mentors and mentees based on interests to foster deeper conversations and mentorship connections — a highlight of FMS 2025.
Contributor Recognition Award As part of celebrating contributions across Fedora, we’ll once again organize the Contributor Recognition Award — from nominations to selecting and honoring contributors at the Summit.
How You Can Help
We need volunteers to help with: Planning logistics for each activity:
Drafting communication and sign-up forms Facilitating sessions during the event.
Helping with award nominations and selection process.
Outreach and engagement pre- and post-Flock.
Assembling a committee of reviewers for the awards, to help involve multiple teams and perspectives in the reviewer process.
Whether you’re a seasoned organizer or new to volunteering, there are lots of ways to get involved! We are looking for both on-site and virtual volunteers.
Have Other Ideas?
This is also the space to bring new ideas for the Mentor Summit. If you have activities, formats, or goals you think would make mentorship even more valuable at Flock, please share them below! Our aim is to grow the Summit in ways that serve the whole community.

What activity you’d like to help with (e.g., Lunch matching, Sticker Match, Contributor Recognition Award)
Thanks for kicking off this call for volunteers, @recursedd! There are some great opportunities to get involved with organizing an important event in the Fedora Project, and it helps us create the culture of mentoring that is so important for us to be sustainable as an open source project.
I pinned this topic globally until Monday so that folks have a chance to see this and raise their hand if they want to get involved.
Count me in! I loved the Lunch in the last flock. It was great to just have a good casual conversation with folks and hear about their experences.
I was also honored to get a contributor recognition award as well last year. (as a side note, I think anyone who won last year should not be considered this year… I’d love for us to recognize more contributors around the project and I know there are a bunch of them!)
Thanks so much everyone for signing up, I’m really excited to see so many people willing to help!
We usually kick things off with a first call to align, divide the work, and assign initial tasks. Can you all please select the time slots that work best for you using this link: WhenIsGood: Fedora Mentor Summit 2026 (and don’t forget to adjust the timezone).
I’ll then pick the option that works for us (hopefully we’ll have a good overlap ), and we can get started on planning this year’s Mentor Summit together. Meanwhile, I’ll start adding information and updating our Forgejo repo here: https://forge.fedoraproject.org/dei/fedora-mentor-summit Looking forward to collaborating with you all!
I’ve updated the slots with new dates for March, so please take a moment to vote by the end of this week (March 8) so I can finalize the date of our first meeting.
Thanks for voting on the meeting poll! Based on the results, we have a winner for our first Mentor Summit sync: May 17 at 10:00 CET.
If you would like to join the meeting, here’s the link: Fedora Mentor Summit 2026
cc @recursedd@kevin I hope the meeting time works for you. I didn’t see your votes on the poll, but it would be great to have you join if you’re available.
Last week we had our first meeting with @t0xic0der@gwmngilfen and myself. For those who couldn’t join, I’ve added notes to the tickets on Fedora Forge:
For the full meeting recording, check out: Fedora People (kudos to Greg for handling the recording)
Next steps:
Since the current meeting times didn’t work for everyone, please vote for a new slot. Please note that we will be meeting weekly (for ~ 45 min) and I’ll pick a final time on Sunday: WhenIsGood: Fedora Mentor Summit 2026
Before our next meeting, please take a look at the notes and action items, especially about the Contributor Recognition Program.
Let me know which ticket/s you would like to work on: Contributor Recognition Program, Mentor/Mentee Lunch Matching, or Sticker Match Social Networking. You’re welcome to contribute to more than one, this will just help us coordinate and divide the work.
