Burn FD 44 Live ISO to DVD

I am trying to burn a FD 44 Live ISO to DVD which I downloaded and the sha256 checksum was o/k. Trying to use Brasero failed saying “The Format of the disc image could not be identified. Please set it manually.” I also tried booting from the ISO using Ventoy on a USB which failed to boot and burning to a DVD using Windows 11 also failed.

I guess I don’t know what “FD” is. If you clarify exactly which download you are having trouble with, then I can do a quick test of the ISO with QEMU on my PC.

I think the last time I used one of those ISOs on a bare metal machine, I used the dd command to write it to a USB drive. As far as I know, that still works. You just have to be careful that you write to the correct drive.

Most users today simply write the iso image to a usb device using dd or an app such as fedora’s media writer which can be used on linux or on windows.

Actually writing to a disk is seldom used anymore although I have done it using k3b or brasero or media writer as well. On windows that would be done using rufus or even with the windows explorer by itself.

Media Write worked ( FD 44 was Fedora 44 KDE ) writing to a USB booted o/k. But it was strange that Fedora 43 Live Disk worked perfectly o/k on a DVD and using Ventoy.

i have not heard anyone burning cds or dvds in like 5 years, i no longer have optical drive to do any of that, last time i burned something was with k3b because brasero came up with weird questions, k3b just worked, untill i had problems with the discs themselves and later the drive died, this was well over a decade ago

to make things simple i just use a usb flash drive of around 8 gbs and just use the fedora media writer, i can install it on other distros too, it is nice and simple
