My Brother printer MCF-J1360DW is installed with scanner. And in CUPS. It worked when my system was setup. My nephew did a test page printing. Now when I want to print. I can’t print. I setup printer in CUPS when I was on Zorin. Have location as my User/Admin name. Put in my printer http://address. I thought it might have been that my nephew deleted the drivers in “downloads” to clean everything up. But printer was installed through terminal. I re-downloaded drivers from brother website. Still nothing. I am at loss.
The printer setup should offer an IPP configuration and generate a “Device URI” of the form
dnssd://<PrinterModel>._ipp._tcp.local/?uuid=<UUID>.
Ok, I don’t know how. But when I started up again. And this is weird. The printer started printing all kinds a of jobs. I had a ghost. I couldn’t understand it. I checked my printer settings. Still said the same thing. Now my nephew setup my VPN from Mullvad for printer being allowed. I know it worked.
I have been looking for a setting for printers on vpn and wifi. I did another search. Found out how to get to that setting. I changed the setting. I don’t know how it got changed. No idea. Then I had job after job after coming out of my printer.
So I decided to test it. You know I had to. I tested many times. No problems. I had a break down this morning. Dealing with Linux. This printer not working again set me off. Being new to Linux. First on Zorin. Then NordVPN wiping out my system in 28 days. And now on Fedora, and trying to relearn.
But all is good now. Thank you for reaching out. I still can’t understand my “Ghost”.
Glad your printer is working. We have seen other examples where CUPS preserves documents that failed to print and they start to appear once configuration glitches are fixed. The CUPS documentation does have extensive troubleshooting advice, but relies on terminal commandxline tools.
And while still learning Linux and Terminal Coding that would be a daulting task. Good to hear there are problems with CUPS. Makes me feel a little better.
