Broken Wifi drivers after update through the software center (Broadom Wifi drivers) on macbook

After doing an update the wifi drivers suddenly stopped working. I tried these threads but no luck. Can't connect to wifi after update (bcm4360 with broadcom-wl driver) - #32 by nightblade120

Hi @graded4333

There is currently an issue with wpa_supplicant on Macs that likely causes this, you can read more about what you can do to fix it in the thread linked below:

Added macbook

Do updates for such driver even matter considering how old my macbook is (macbook air early 2015)?

Sometimes they can matter, for instance a while ago OpenSSL 3.0 support was added to wpa_supplicant, and without such an update you would likely run into connectivity issues later on. So generally it’s best to just keep updating to new versions when they come along.

It’s annoying when it breaks stuff though…

Where can I get updates over the status of those drivers?

If you mean wpa_supplicant specifically, it’s changelog can be found here:

This appears to be the first update it received in about 2.5 years. They will probably issue an update soon(ish) though to address the Broadcom problem, or perhaps Broadcam will release an update of their driver to circumvent the problem.
