Bluetooth is not possible to enable anymore (AMD)

STR

I tried and connected a Bluetooth headset, but it choose the wrong codec/device type (it connected to “Hands-Free Voice Audio” or something, which I do not want to use.

Thus I disabled the wifi as usually restarting solves the problem.

However, in this case it did not. It made it worse.

I could not enable Bluetooth at all again afterwards. Also, I tried systemctl restart bluetooth.service, which has IIRC once fixed such an issue. But it did not help.

Notable correlations

It may not be related, but:

  • at the same time, afterwards I had (again) touchpad problems (last time just solved by restarting). This time I can use the toucpad normally except selecting text or dragging/dropping, i.e. it regsiters clicks, but not the “mouse up” event (to express it like that).
    The time before the whole touchpad did not react anymore.
  • I have obviously updated my system and attached the diff below, but don’t see any culprits in there.
  • While writing this I have a noticable input lag, but only in my browser (maybe just because there are huge log files inline below)

Laptop is also frequently in standby, I know such things can cause such issues.

What happens

(urg I cannot upload GNOME .webm screencasts here.)

PS

I found https://www.bluez.org/ and initially wanted to report it there, but I found no way and no mailing lists are uff. So I went here. Hope you can direct me, if you want.

Found a thread, which looks quite similar:

$ lspci -nnk
[…]
01:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6 AX200 [8086:2723] (rev 1a)
	Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:0080]
	Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi
	Kernel modules: iwlwifi
[…]
$ bluetoothctl show
No default controller available

lsusb is used to see the bluetooth side of a device.
I have

lsusb
[...]
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 8087:0032 Intel Corp. AX210 Bluetooth
[...]

and

lspci -nnk
[...]
05:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6 AX210/AX211/AX411 160MHz [8086:2725] (rev 1a)
	Subsystem: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6 AX210 160MHz [8086:0024]
	Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi
	Kernel modules: iwlwifi
[...]

If the device is not shown with lsusb then it may be that the device does not have bluetooth support on the chipset

Well the device had and has Bluetooh support. Running it now (Bluetooth seems to work again) shows:

$ lsusb

[…]
$ lspci -nnk

Having the same issue again with a headset. This time I could re-enable Bluetooth, but it did not help.
The issue was: I could choose and connect to the headset, but two seconds later or so it would disconnect again (you see it is connected for some seconds and then it is not anymore)
Workaround: Only after I deleted the device and re-aded/re-paired it completely it worked…

Okay current state of affairs:

  • Bluetooth enbaling/disabling works normally.
  • Also connecting seems to look normally.

But I needed to remove the device from the list and repair it. Only then I could actually get audio via Bluetooth.

That said, just now I tried reproducing the issue and now just connecting as usual seems to work, so seems to look good here hmm? :thinking:
