First of all I’m not sure if this is an akmod-nvidia driver, BIOS, Kernel, KDE or Fedora problem. Any guidance is appreciated.
When I use the latest BIOS (F37) (Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX V2) and update akmod-nvidia to latest, after reboot and login screen I get a black screen, but I can see mouse. I can also access tty (cntrl + alt + F3) or get back to lock screen (super/win + L).
It seems to be a problem accessing KDE Plasma. It fails with X11 and Wayland session.
After several tests I can say that it works fine with BIOS F21, F32f and F36. Only F37 BIOS is failing.
Steps to reproduce the problem:
-
F37 BIOS Fresh Install:
1.1. Fresh Install Fedora 43 with F37 BIOS
1.2.sudo dnf update,sudo reboot,sudo dnf install akmod-nvidia,sudo reboot
1.3. Black screen after login screen. -
F36 BIOS Fresh Install posterior upgraded to F37 BIOS:
2.1. Fresh Install Fedora 43 with F36 BIOS
2.2.sudo dnf update, sudo reboot, sudo dnf install akmod-nvidia,sudo reboot. At this point it works.
2.3. Upgrade BIOS to F37.
2.4. Black screen after login screen.- 2.4.1 Downgrading to F36 BIOS solves it.
I don’t know if this is relevant, but Kernel 6.17.9, which latest akmod-nvidia driver uses, was released only 3 days after F37 BIOS release.
Setup:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7800X3d
- GPU: NVidia RTX4070TI Super
- MoBo: Gigabyte Aorus Elite AX V2 B650
- OS: Fedora 43.
