Black Screen after login with wayland starting from kernel 6.18.x

Hello,

Up until kernel 6.17.12-300.fc43.x86_64 wayland worked fine.
Once I update the kernel to any 6.18 version I get a black screen after login when using wayland.
When I select X11 the system boots fine and everything works, but I notice stuttering in world of warcraft where under kernel 6.17 wayland it works fine.

From what I understood for now is the issue is most likely related to i915/Xe driver regression in 6.18.

From the black screen I cannot switch to TTY.

I added an fpaste of the system below.
Hopefully this issue can be fixed but I guess for now I’m stuck on 6.17.

Many thanks in advance!

Some additional info,

I’m fairly new to linux. I came from windows when Fedora 43 just launched.
With the help of previous forum posts, googling and chatgpt I managed to get the system up and running.

This issue has stomped me for a few days now, trying various solutions but non seem to work. In the end it was chatgpt that suggested it might be a kernel regression issue and a bug report might be in order. I have no idea how to properly do one so I posted it here.

Please point me in the right direction if this wasn’t the place to post this or if you want additional info.

Many thanks already.

You could try booting with the rhgb and quiet options removed from the kernel parameters. You’ll see all the messages from the boot process and the firing up of your machine shoot up the screen. It would be interesting to see what the last page of output says when the boot process comes to an end, and you be staring at the greeter (sddm for KDE in your case).

To do this, when grub appears hit e on your kernel of choice and remove the rhgb and quiet parameters from the kernel parameters and then hit F10 or Ctrl-X to boot that kernel. This is not a permanent change - it’s a one-shot deal.

See anything that looks interesting - failure to initialise the xe driver or the i915 driver or output akin to that?
