For the discord and steam freezing issue:

As for limiting video ram, I don’t believe so - if an application asks for 7.5 GB of your 8GB of VRAM, it’ll get 7.5 GB. I’ve no idea what you are looking at, doing or using in Discord when it runs out of RAM, but the issue may well just be that you’re running some game which is using most of your VRAM and discord wants a piece of the action, and it can’t get it.

You could try running watch -n 2 nvidia-smi in a window to see what software is using a lot of your ram when you get these crashes or issues. I can’t think what you’d actually DO about it though, other than not running whatever software is sucking up your VRAM.

As for fixing the issue on /dev/sda, do you know what drive this is, what is on it, if you have a backup of it (I’d get one ASAP if I were you). Once you’ve got a backup you’re happy with, you can run an fsck on the device, checking for errors and correcting those it can. If the file system checker can correct an error it will try to, but it may be a physically damaged piece of storage, and you lose what contents are on that piece of the damage, disk, hence the need for a backup.
