Automatically suggesting tags by topic or keyword

Hi I’ve seen discussions around no tags in the past. Particularly, on Ask Fedora category, tags would help us find related posts and solutions.

Rationale

  • Posts with tags are much more discoverable than the ones without them.
  • Contributors are scarce resources. We can avoid repetitive actions (such as nagging users to tag it or asking TL3 or TL4 to add it).

Approach

  • When a user writes a post and publishes it without a tag, Discourse recommends tags based on the keyword or topic on the subject title.
  • Alternatively, we can limit posts with solutions to trigger recommendations.

Is there a built-in plugin on Discourse to activate something similar?
What do you think?

I think there is one and it used to be enabled and it tagged things with nonsensical tags, so it got removed?

Yes when someone posted a pre formatet text with computer specs as inxi for example, It took a lot of the keywords from fields inxi displays by default. This was not helping at all.

Since I’m one of those who tags posts when they’re related to image mode systems, I personally prefer to do it myself, at least for now. If the forum is flooded with inappropriate tagged posts, we may find ourselves in a situation where removing tags may take longer and be more difficult to deal with. Moreover, if we miss or unable to remove erroneous tags in time, the maintainers will receive irrelevant notifications.
