I’ve recently update to F44 and like always, I activated autologin. But I still get the login screen. My account is launching in the background since Firefox and Thunderbird are ready when I log in. But it’s still annoying. And when I turn on my computer and go do something else for a while, it hibernates whilst it’s something I’ve disabled.
Is it the intended behaviour in F44 ? I’m using the gnome version of fedora, with gdm as login manager.
It also suspects that it mess up with solaar that does not display in the icon tray, but I’m not sure it’s the cause. But before dealing with that I wouls like to solve this login screen.
Here custom.conf is the same (except for user name).
I set autologin in Settings > Users and it works.
In a new installation I switched off 'Extinction… " and I do not have that standby (Mise en veille automatique) option.
Usually, when I boot my computer, I go do other things and I start using it a few minutes later. So first, I though that I had to enter my password because the screen was locked. But if I stay in from of my computer, I immediately get to the login screen. But in the background, as I said, my profile is loading. It’s as if I get an immediate locked screen.
Can you change the behavior of the power button (to rule out a physical issue)? If I understand correctly, “Mettre en veille” means putting to sleep. Maybe set it to do nothing instead.
I will try this, but I doubt it will change anything since it’s the setting I’ve had for years and since it does not hibernate when I turn on the computer.
I cannot turn off my computer, but when I can I’ll try.
Vendors have been changing firmware to be able to advertise lower power consumption for volume purchases (cubicle farms). Linux, meanwhile, has been removing vendor dependent power management in favour of “standards”, and also making changes to close security bugs AI is discovering, so settings that worked with older kernels may no longer work. In such cases it is worth trying a Fedora 45 pre-release “Live” USB a) in case your issue has already been fixed, and b) because more devs are watching for issues.
I’ve tried disabling autologin, rebooted, activating again autologin and rebooted once again. It’s still the same.
But I can confirm that with autologin, it’s not a login screen and more a locked screen, because my session is launching in the background. It’s very strange because I’ve disabled the lock screen.
Yeah, I’ve been having the same issue for a couple of weeks now. It seems to work if I ssh onto the box and then restart the GDM. Which is weird. The config is exactly the same as above (different username obviously) and the settings in GNOME seem to think that auto-login is enabled and yet it doesn’t auto login when I start the machine.
