Attaching files broken in fedora 42 after recent update

Hi,

I’m talking Silverblue 42 here but the affected packages are layered in base so I’m asking if others are seeing this issue.

After a recent update, I can no longer attach files to emails in Evolution or upload photos to Google Photos in Chromium using the file selector. For Google Photos I can use drag-and-drop to upload the files.

The application becomes unresponsive and the best solution is to logout/login and recover the previous session in either of those two applications.

To be clear, this was working fine and appears to be the consequence of a recent update to the OS. I’ve also tried uploading photos to Google Photos with Epiphany and get the same result. I suspect the issue is with the File Chooser dialog component.

I can confirm this issue.

Epiphany with Google Photos freezes when attaching a file, while Geary only attaches a file the second time I choose to attach it.

No issue with Firefox, which uses a legacy File Chooser.

same problem

Appears to be fixed with xdg-desktop-portal-1.20.3-1.fc42.x86_64.

Did you actually read my original post? I commented how the issue affected both flatpak and layered packages. I also solicited input from others not using Silverblue and received responses from them. I also asked for feedback in the GNOME Matrix chat from fedora users and received a response (which pointed me to the bug report for xdg-desktop-portal coredumping). So, it’s not a Silverblue-only thing, I detected it on Silverblue because that’s what I use but I always check for issues affecting fedora in general.
