"Ask Fedora SOPs" in Docs to be retired and replaced: replacements to be either in Docs or Discourse

Hi folks

As some of you maybe already know, the Moderation team of Discourse has worked on new “Fedora Discussion Forum (Self-)Moderation Guidelines and Rules” and is currently conducting a final poll, in which the new Guidelines can be already expected to pass.

However, the question in a second poll, which is not yet decided, is if the new Guidelines will be published in the Docs or on Discourse. This is to be answered in early March.

However, I open this topic already as we can say already for sure that adjustments in the Docs will be necessary: the old Ask Fedora SOPs need to be removed from the Docs. This includes adjustments on at least four pages:
Remove the Ask Fedora SOPs from the index:
1 → https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/mindshare/
Remove the pages at all from the public Docs:
2 → https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/ask-fedora-sops/
3 → https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/ask-fedora-sops/user_en/
4 → https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/ask-fedora-sops/mod_en/

As the full name already indicates, the new guidelines intend to replace both the User SOP and the Mod SOP, which both have been obsoleted for years (still tailored to the old ask.fedora) and are likely not even known to most users here.

Depending on the outcome of the two polls, it might become necessary to create a new page for the guidelines, which then needs to be added to the index.

I will do the job when the time comes and everything is decided, but wanted to already open a topic about it, to keep you informed early, and enable you to raise issues if there are some (just in case).

Otherwise, I would follow up here on the days after 8th March (the poll deadline).

Alright, so the current SOPs have been removed from the Mindshare page as well from the sitewide config, so they’ll no longer be published.

Once the polls conclude. if you decide to publish the new SOPs in docs again, we’ll need to migrate the repo to Forgejo first if you want to reuse it, and if you decide to do it in Discourse, I’ll need to completely remove the link from the Mindshare page (it’s only commented out for now).

Thanks for the support! That saves me quite some time :classic_smiley: I’ll keep you updated here.

I think it is easiest and most comprehensible to start with a new repo at forge (especially as this will be a completely different approach, and no longer split between user and mod SOP). But we’ll see, that is not yet decided :classic_smiley:

Do you have a preference where to put the new repo? I assume you prefer we host it outside of …/docs ?

We have currently no group in forge. We have an FAS group, so I can request a forge group, but not sure if that is the preferred way?

I might ask internally first if people prefer to have a joint forge group for this or if I shall host the repo the way the old one was hosted. But feel free to let us know if you have a preference or so :classic_smiley:

Hi, once the new repository is created, please let the localization team know the new URL so we can make the proper adjusts in the localization project in Fedora Weblate.
