So I got into learning different kernels, and I found the catchy os one, that uses BORE task scheduler, it doesn’t seem to do anything at all in a regular use, but it fixed my Elden ring play trough by a good margin, I stopped having stutters, I gained 10 extra fps at all times and I don’t have any stuttering at all, this is probably( I think) because ER uses CPU cores non optimally and this thing seems to help that in some way , I also now don’t have any stuttering in any of the games I am currently running, on wayland ( KDE) , is it safe to use this? will it update alongside my system when Fedora 41 releases? Or will it be better to make fedora use the same BORE task scheduler on it’s default kernel?
We have had some user recently post threads on random issues with their installs ranging from Nvidia Driver issues, to other Hardware/Software bugs, Black Screen on boot issues with system update/upgrades and others while using the cachyos kernel. Once they removed it, problems were gone.
Using other kernels is typically unsupported and you should refer issues, or circumstances to that community.
I am not trying to report any issues, all runs fine for me, just want to see if any people have a long term experience
From Ask Fedora to The Water Cooler
I can’t agree more with this statement. I used cachyOS, in itself it’s not a bad thing. Furthermore, I had pretty good imputlag performance boost in games. But on the other hand, I couldn’t fix some issue with NVIDIA / Wayland.
The issues were not from cachyOS per se. But as soon as I came back to the official kernel, I could apply the fixes! And now my games runs perfectly on Wayland.
(thx again to @hamrheadcorvette for helping me with the issue)
I tested with Aurora (ublue / Kinoite) with Nvidia + Wayland and had zero issues with light usage (tested some games too) over a few weeks.
