Hello Fedora Community!
In support of the proposed Fedora 46 System-Wide Change for the Crystal Language and the draft Crystal Packaging Guidelines currently under review (FPC #1567), we are forming the Fedora Crystal Special Interest Group (SIG).
Why a SIG?
Regardless of the formal approval timeline, introducing a compiled, self-hosting language and its shard library ecosystem into Fedora requires careful coordination. We want to establish a collaborative home early so interested packagers, developers, and maintainers can work together on:
- Compiler & Tooling Staging: Testing and refining the cold-start bootstrap workflow for the
crystalcompiler andshardspackage manager. - RPM Packaging Infrastructure: Testing
crystal-rpm-macros, automated dependency generators, and spec generator tooling (cr2rpm). - Draft Packaging Guidelines: Gathering packager feedback on the unbundled Shard-as-RPM model and parallel versioning.
- Community Collaboration: Providing an open space for anyone interested in using or packaging Crystal on Fedora Linux, EPEL, and CentOS Stream.
