Anaconda Web Installer and LVM !?

Hello,

I had a laptop with Fedora Workstation.
I installed it long time ago with LVM (root and home on ext4) over LUCKS.

I want to install today a new laptip with similar partition.

On Anaconda Web installer, i can encrypt only with BTRFS but BTRFS is so slooooooow…
On the New Anaconda Instalelr webUI, i can create some LVM things but not all.
On manual partitonning, when i try to mount some LV, the installer not detect the Logical volumes….
Is it a known issue with the new installer ? I didn’t see on forums…

I installed with the net installer (which has the old anaconda installer) but if it’s not implemented, i want to report that !
Can you confirm LVM + ext4/xfs + LUCKS is impossible with new anaconda webinstaller ? Or give me the trick if it’s possible but i didn’t find ?

Thanks

Did you explore Storage Editor hidden in the three-for menu?

Yes i explored the Storage Editor, i used it !

I can create a VG

On this VG i only can delete it.

Into the VG i only can create a LV.
In the LV; i can select if i want to use a LV or thin-lv

And in the LV i can format, reduce, disable or delete it

When i format the LV, i can encrypt, yes, but it’s a passphrase on THE LV.

When i create an other LV for home, i can encrypt it yes, but i must type a passphrase again.

Before, it was all the VG which was encrypted.

Now we can only encrypt each LV individualy…

So when the system installed, the passphrase asked twice to unlock the 2 LV

I doubt this… I have a encrypted system that I installed using the “new” anaconda installer, and I unlock / and /home (all ext4 here, not just brtfs subvolumes) with a single passphrase. Don’t remember on top my head how I did it but it’s possible.

Make sure both LVs are part of the same VG, which is the encrypted layer…

I just tried this with a new vm and the storage editor is a horrible piece of software, absolutely non-intuitive UI/UX. I must have used blivet-gui or even gparted from the live-session setting up my partitions, VGs, LVs, and file systems before starting the actual installer. The installer then allows to use “mount point assignment” of existing volumes/partitions.

If you ask me, use the Everything installer (netinstaller) that still has the old installer in which you can setup everything without any issues.

I have reproduced your report. I didn’t find a way either to create a volume group on top of a LUKS encrypted device with the webinstaller. This works fine with the old installer.

Please go ahead and file a bug report against anaconda-webui.

Thanks for the bug report ! Just see your answers.

The everything installer is good because it uses old anaconda.
But in 1 or 2 years the webinstaller will be in all the ISO :frowning:
