AMD VSR on Fedora Workstation

Hi, this will be my first post
I’m asking regarding to AMD’s Virtual Super Resolution features on Fedora

AFAIK the way VSR works is upscaling my display resolution then downscaling it to fit my monitor’s current resolution.
There’ve been people discussing here and there to enable it in game that supports it, but I want it to enable at my desktop instead of only when I game
Just migrated from Windows 2 weeks ago, and haven’t found the solution regarding to my problem, because the text seems a bit blurry and other minor readability issues

A little side note: I’ve been trying to use xrandr and gamescope method to downscale my display but here is the issue:

Xrandr : unable to downscale cuz bad integer
Gamescope : unable to build the package cuz of “xserver” not found

I’m using Fedora 43 GNOME 49 on a 1920x1200 display laptop, with Radeon 660m iGPU

xrandr is for x window system, it is no longer available in the new Gnome Workstation. You will have to find a Wayland based solution.

Yeah as of now, I haven’t found it yet. As I said, I want it to be enabled by default on desktop (like what Windows’ Adrenalin app does). To make matters even worse, X11 is no longer used in Fedora Workstation :frowning:. I actually found a random guy repo called volt-gui to mimic Adrenalin’s features, but I haven’t got time to look further to the app

Cinnamon Desktop still supports x. Many people like it.
You can run two different desktop environments and pick one from the login manager.

Can I use cinnamon to enable xrandr then switch back to GNOME with the same config ported from cinnamon? Also thanks for the replies

No I do not think so.

You are welcome.

So you’re saying that I need to do a fresh install of Cinnamon Fedora spins right? How can I possibly backup my data? I have so many things configured already and don’t want to start over. Is switching the desktop environment alone possible without deleting all the .config files and softwares? Thank you

No, I said you can install both at the same time.

Go to a console and type

sudo dnf group install cinnamon-desktop

Some of your configs will carry over, and some Desktop specific ones won’t.

Ahh ok, will do. I’ll update later when I’ve finished installing the Cinnamon DE, then tried running xrandr inside it. Once again, thank you

Dude it’s working… thank you so much

Guess I’ll stick to x11 gdm till Wayland supports downscaling then XD
