After a smooth upgrade to f43 the software app has new updates for f42. Do I have to run the updates anyway? Thanks!

sudo dnf update

best guess, this are flatpak updates. Those are not updated by dnf release upgrade process.
You can check with flatpak list and update flatpak update

Fedora Platform 42 is in this case the runtime for Fedora Flatpaks. It should have been upgraded to F43, unless there’s still a Flatpak referring the old Platform (maybe because it hasn’t been updated yet). Try updating Flatpaks from the terminal, with flatpak update, then check if the old runtime is still there, with flatpak list --runtime.
EDIT: sorry @anotheruser , I just saw you advised the same thing already.

Thanks for all your feedback!
I updated via terminal as advised. Although the result is ‘nothing to do’ the confusing updates in the software app are gone.
Attached the terminal screenshot. I hope everything is correct now.
If automatic updates are enabled (default setting), the system has already installed the pending updates.
You may want to investigate which flatpak app still depends on the now unsupported 23.08 freedesktop platform.
