Setting for example SSH_AUTH_SOCK ?
Beware, your ~/.config and ~/.local directories may have been recreated during your
successful GUI login.
Then mv ~/.config.bak ~/.config will have moved it in ~/.config/.config.bak
If it is the case correct for example with:
mv ~/.config ~/.config-tmp
mv ~/.config-tmp/.config.bak ~/.config
Do similarly for ~/.local

It would be nice to verify that startx is still usable to launch Cinnamon.
To do that safely (ie: without potential user processes lying around) do:
- reboot
- do not log into the GUI
- log on tty2
- execute:
startx /usr/bin/cinnamon-session &> /var/tmp/startx-02.log - logout from cinnamon
- log into the GUI
- paste as preformatted test:
cat /var/tmp/startx-02.log
