After updating to plasma 6.7.0 KDE won't accept my password

After updating to plasma 6.7.0 and latest set of updates (2026-06-24) KDE won’t accept my password.

Can you switch to a TTY and log in there?

If so, the password is ok and the problem is likely something in plasma crashing and throwing you back you the greeter… unless of course you’re getting an actual “Invalid password” message,

Not sure what TTY refers to (Teletype in the old days)..but managed to sign in . Every time I hit a key it shows a block with a number of alternate symbols..and maybe somehow it enters one of those and I get login failed. That’s new thing since KDE 6.7.0. Since the password is blocked can’t tell if the correct password was entered. Got lucky and it worked after a number of tries. How do I get rid of those alternate choice every time I hit a key. Thx

Try unchecking this box (in System Settings >> Keyboard >> On-Screen Keyboard)

That said, the “alternate characters” are supposed to come up only when you hold a key…they shouldn’t come up in normal typing. This functionality is still a bit bleeding-edge though.

TTY is indeed a Teletype. Throwback to the old terminals; you can get to one by hitting Ctrl-Alt-F3.

You experience shows that the password is accepted but you’re not able to type it easily, presumably due to the setting @pg-tips pointed out.

Thx..unchecked …System Settings >> Keyboard >> On-Screen Keyboard>> Alternate characters.. it also got rid of strange behaviour in some other apps since KDE 6.7.0
