I just saw this “tip” on how one can make their wordpress blog into a fediverse server by adding a plugin. That then allows people to just subscribe to the blog on their fediverse instance. Worth doing for the magazine and the commblog?
The Marketing Team doesn’t run Comm Blog or the Magazine, but from my perspective we think that would be cool for them to set up! @glb would be a point person for Magazine and @jflory7 or @bcotton would be good for the Comm Blog.
Things Marketing Team can do:
- We can help by promoting the handles on Mastodon for those who want a straight feed of those sites in their timelines
- Follow those handles from the Mastodon account
- Occasionally boost the posts form the handles rather than posting links directly to further promote their existence
I enabled it on the Community Blog. I suggest we wait a week or two to make sure it doesn’t break anything before trying to do it on Magazine, but that’s up to the Magazine team.
What would the handle be for Comm Blog? Based on the page for the plugin it suggests it would be @example.com@example.com
but searching @communityblog.fedoraproject.org@communityblog.fedoraproject.org
doesn’t work for me.
Well it turns out I needed to enable the blog profile ID option, which I have done now. So that handle should be the correct one. Authors have their own handle as well.
No dice. I wonder if it has something to do with having the communityblog
part ahead of the regular domain name?
FWIW we do now own the fedora.social domain name. Not sure if that should be used here, but it could.
Are you not able to find it yet? I just found + followed it now:

I saw your post about it, thanks! I’ll post about this being available once the first Comm Blog post shows up on the Fediverse. That way people can see that posts are coming through. Followed the profile as well.
That’s some seriously long handle! I wonder if there’s a way to strip the .fp.o part before the @
First Comm Blog post is on the Fediverse! It looks super cool and shows the whole dang article! Will post about this probably on Friday since tomorrow we have Test Days to post about.
It seems like the plugin is not consistent with which posts it shares on the fediverse. The one from zlopez on Silverblue did post, but the others from the CPE team did not.
Yeh, it’s not posting all of them somehow. I was looking for the docs workshop post, but I can’t see it there.
At the very least it doesn’t seem to create a negative experience from the side of the website, so I don’t think it’s bad to have it on. I think the Magazine would also be fine to turn this on.
One point I can see against the move is the expectation that we have to maintain this extension and fix the problem of not all posts showing up, but maybe we work around that by managing expectations at the start and having a policy of “we only turned on the extension and keep it up to date - all problems have to get solved by updates to the extension.”
Yeh, I think that’s a good way to go. It’s a good extra to have in place
