ACPI error spams Journalctl one thousand times per minute

EDIT: My experience with Fedora in the last few months has degraded a lot, and it’s probably my fault! I’m considering reinstalling Fedora soon

Sometimes I check Journalctl at startup. Today was one of those days. Earlier today, it was fine, albeit with errors pertaining to another issue I’m currently experiencing, but after a sudo dnf upgrade, I get this ACPI error. According to Journalctl, it is printed over one thousand times every minute??

Unlike other instances of this I found by searching, the computer boobts fine, but I can’t imagine this is good for the SSD

To my understanding this might have to do with the BIOS, and though there is a BIOS update available for my laptop’s model, it’s packaged as an EXE on the vendor’s website

Those firmware EXEs can usually be downloaded then use something like winpe to create a bootable windows environment on usb and install the update.

There are two other choices.

A fair number of machines are just shipping UEFI Capsule images wrapped in windows installer images, or have their own custom capsule efi applications that the .exe is just installing. Those efi application and capsules work just fine in fedora once you extract them because they are just EFI images and work independent of the installed OS.

Search for fwupdmgr/innoextract/p7zip and your laptop model. There are likely instructions lying about. Basically, you extract the capsule and use fwupdmgr to install/activate it, or you extract the custom capsule loader+capsule and put them in /boot/EFI/something and run them from an EFI shell or the bios boot selector.

If for some reason, updating the bios is impossible, or the update doesn’t fix it. Its also possible to fix these kinds of issues by grabbing the DSDT/SSDT’s from /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/ decompiling them with iasl, fixing/removing the broken method, and then injecting it during boot with dracut’s acpi_override option.
