I’ve had a persisting issue with my RX 9070XT and sleep/boot. I regularly have to force restart or power cycle my machine to boot it. I’d like some pointers if anyone can help?
I know its sacrilege here but here’s what cursor AI says about it:
Primary Boot Issues (Most Critical):
- AMD GPU Driver Timeouts (Main Issue)

System Information for Forum Post:
OS: Fedora Linux 6.17.3-300.fc43.x86_64
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070/9070 XT/9070 GRE (Navi 48)
Boot Time: 31.5 seconds total
Filesystem: BTRFS (healthy, no errors)
Storage: 2x NVMe drives (both healthy, no SMART errors)
The AMD GPU REG_WAIT timeout errors are the most significant and likely cause of your boot issues. These are common with newer AMD graphics cards and usually indicate driver/kernel compatibility issues.
The reg_wait error used to only happen when sleeping but now it seems to be on a normal boot after a shutdown - unless I empty the board capacitors.
thanks for reading. I can print what I did to get the conclusions if it helps?
