60hz black screen no signal only on | KDE | Plasma 6

Hello,

I have a thinkpad e16 ryzen 5 7530u (no nvidia) connected to a 4k 60hz monitor via a docking station Dell WD19TB.

I am able to output 4k 60hz on all major OS such as Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Fedora 40 Debian, Windows with no issue. But get a black screen on Fedora 40 Kde and am limited any thing bellow that resolution to get any signal to the monitor.

The 60hz shows as an option but does not output any signal for some reason. I know that the thinkpad E16 has usb-c 3.2 and uses DSC via the dock to output 60 hz @4k, but I dont get why only Fedora 40 Kde has this issue.

Connecting the monitor using a usb-c to DP give 60hz@4k without any issues.

Here is the output from kscreen-doctor:

Maybe this is kernel version related?
Or mesa version related?

What kernels and mesa versions are being used when it works?

Also you need to share hardware details with us.
What is the output of inxi -Fzxx?

Thank you.

I use a Dell monitor with built-in docking station. It is easily confused after installing new OS versions. A Dell firmware update reduced the confusion. Often, power cycling the monitor when the display fails will get a proper display.

Thanks for the recommendations. My dock is updated have worked flawlessly with close to 12 laptops and all major linux distros except Fedora kde 40. Something broke the monitor output at 4k60hz.

I still have not found a solution to this. I am really contemplating replacing my AMD laptop with an intel one. I find intel to be less problematic with linux overall.

Have you tried a different spin or Workstation before you go replacing the hardware ?

Yes I tried. And i am able to output 4k60hz without issues on Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Fedora Workstation 40. . The only one that doesnt work for me is Fedora KDE 40.

Sounds like a KDE problem

Added f40, kde-plasma and removed fedora-kde

Maybe I should try with another plssma 6 distro. How does one go about and troubleshoot this?

Well, you said you tried Kubuntu, isn’t that a KDE distro? I’m not sure though.

You are absolutely right, I just tried KDE Neon and had the same issue.
Kubuntu is has not yet jumped onto Plasma 6.
It could be a plasma 6 issue.
I will search their forum instead.
Thank you so much.
