[2018-10-31] [Minutes] Appreciation Week prep, F29 => F30 triage, goodbye mailing list

meeting-minutes

#1

Thanks to all who attended and participated in today’s spook-tacular CommOps meeting! :bat: :ghost: :jack_o_lantern:

This meeting focused on two things:

  • Appreciation Week prep: Scheduling CommBlog story articles, posting to announce@lists.fp.o list, scheduling / planning social media coverage
  • F29 => F30 ticket triage: Triaged some tickets, had extensive discussion on mailing list => Discourse (decided to archive mailing list on Wednesday, Nov. 14th)

Meeting ended Wed Oct 31 16:54:52 2018 UTC.

    • What is the feedback from using Discourse so far? Is now a good time
to consider archiving the mailing list? (jwf, 16:40:51)
    • x3mboy: New tab in browser still annoying, but since no email access
at work anyways, Discourse is preferred (jwf, 16:41:14)
    • jwf: Finding it easier to use. Also noticing older conversations
getting more traffic (e.g. after a few days, someone might reply).
Also feels like more people outside of our team are participating in
      threads. (jwf, 16:41:56)
    • AGREED: Overall, core contributors agree that Discourse is more
convenient and better to use for our sub-project. We plan to set
commops@lists.fp.o to read-only on Wednesday, Nov. 14th. (jwf,
      16:45:34)
    • ACTION: bt0 Post a reminder to commops@lists.fp.o that we migrated
to Discourse, mailing list will be archived on Nov. 14th, and share
link to Discourse CommOps category (jwf, 16:48:09)
    • ACTION: commops Remember to send a second reminder about CommOps
mailing list going away to Discourse on Wednesday, Nov. 7th (jwf,
      16:49:02)
  • Open floor (jwf, 16:51:13)

Meeting ended at 16:54:52 UTC.

@jwf I just skimmed the log because I was curious about the ML -> Discourse transition from this teams viewpoint.

And I just wanted to say that I agree with the sentiment shared there: the interactions here feel easier, more people are chiming in on older threads and it’s much easier to peek in on what other teams are doing.

My primary interests are Silverblue and CoreOS (immutable hosts FTW!) and I think we are gaining good use of the Discourse site in both places (Silverblue taking the lead here, though).

So just a long way of saying +1 to retiring the ML. Cheers!
